Favorite Newborn Vendors
Over my time as a newborn photographer I’ve had the pleasure or working with quite a few vendors. And while most of these experiences and products were great, some vendors stood out! I figured that I would share my findings of my favorite newborn vendors with you all so that you wouldn’t miss out!
Headbands: The staple of any newborn girl’s session. There are many headbands/tie backs in the market and a lot are great. My personal favorites are the jersey ones because they are sweet, simple, and stretchy. You don’t have to tie them and dangle them on baby, but some can be adjusted before/after putting them on baby. I do also use the dainty twine/string ones, I love their look so I have to use them occasionally.
Edna Magdalene is my absolute favorite headband vendor. She makes the sweetest jersey knit and twine/string based headbands and I use them on 90% of my newborn girl photos. And to top it off, the owner is the nicest person!
Honorable Mentions: Goodnight Moon, Muted, The Dainty Miss, Created By Carli and Arcadia Lullabies
Rompers & Pants: Rompers and pants are the most adorable addition to newborn photos and parents rave about them!
Edna Magdalene: Sweet ole’ Nicole again. Seriously, her rompers are so adorable.
Honorable Mentions: Pup & Frank, Soft Sky Props, Cora and Violet and Props So Chic
Props: The actual props used in newborn sessions are a huge thing for the client. They have to love them and have them not be tacky.
JD Vintage: I love all of the finds at JD Vintage, the stuff is always amazing and comes rather quickly.
Honorable Mentions: Thrift Stores, TFJ Designs, Fancy Fabrics & Props, PhotoBlocks
Wraps: I have used wraps from a TON of places. And there are only a few places that I actually trust now. Wraps are important because they need to be both soft and stretchy.
The Indy Cottage Prop Shop: Hands down the best wraps I have ever used. I have about 15-20 from this shop and every one is absolutely perfect. Soft, stretchy and long! She often has sales on her Facebook page.
Honorable Mentions: Dolly Priss, Fancy Fabric & Props, Red Owl
Layering: Layers are important, especially for prop shots, but for some bean bag photos as well. Layers come in all different styles and looks. A lot of photographers use wraps, bump blankets and/or fluff in their photos.
Bailey’s Knits: Bailey’s Knits has the cutest knit bump blankets. I love both of her styles and use them almost every single session. She also has a wide variety of colors for the color lovers of the newborn world.
Honorable Mentions: Tanya’s Tangles, Oh so fleeting, Art My Blanket, Buttercup Baby Props,
Bonnets:Bonnets are so sweet. I absolutely love the fuzzy knit patterns, but others are great, too!
Joie de Knits: Not only are her bonnets breathtaking, but she is the sweetest! I cannot wait to order more from her!
Honorable Mentions: Lee Crochet, Riley’s Mom Makes Hats, Persnickety’s Knits, Mama Knits, Beautiful Ewe,
Poser Beanbag: Let me start by saying that before this poser I tried two others from two different makers and they just didn’t work all that well; one the stitching even came out within the first two months. The bean bag poser is essential, in my opinion, to newborn photography.
Little Dreamer Props: Jessica’s PVC pipe holder bean bag is amazing. It puts the backdrops at the perfect incline and makes it so easy to change out the drop! I also love the square design and how durable it is!
Lovely Dresses/Rompers: Doing stylized photos for older girls are so fun! I love to have a good stock of dresses, flower crowns and rompers.
Elsie Lyn Boutique: I’m partial to this boutique; but their products are adorable and perfect for photographs!
Honorable Mentions: Darling Baby Shop, Dollcake
